Having visited Buenos Aires, Paris, Cape Town, Manila and many more, the museum is a true globetrotter. After exhibiting on over 40 locations so far, the clients were looking for a digital platform where they can showcase museum’s global footprint.
The centerpiece of the web app is a stylized world map outlining breakups and where they’ve occurred. As relationships separate, the idea behind the map is to unify. The underlying tone is to show website visitors they’re not alone.
To share a break-up, a visitor needs to pin a location to a map. Optionally, they can write their emotional experience and attach a photo. Because visitors share intimate details, all data is anonymous.
If it’s too painful to share a story right now, visitors can write it down and put it under a lock for a certain period of time. The story will be shown as locked, giving them much-needed time to confront their emotions.
Web technologies for the project were chosen with care. The web app was built using React, Redux and the API was implemented using the JSON API standard. We used Webpack to bring all of this together so it doesn’t ”drift" apart. To make the site snappy and fast, we added server side rendering - making it an isomorphic application.
